What Are Zone Control Systems?
“Zone Control” is a feature that can be added to most existing HVAC systems. Electro-mechanical dampers are installed in your air ducts to restrict or allow airflow to a certain area or “zone” in your home. Each zone can be controlled independently. On your primary thermostat, you’ll be able to set custom temperatures for each zone. Most zone systems provide additional independent controllers in each zone area.
Is a Zone Control System Right For Me?
Zone control systems are generally a good upgrade if your space has areas with different heating/cooling needs. Here are a few scenarios in which this may be the case:
- You want different temperatures in different areas (such as in the master suite).
- You have difficulty cooling the upstairs or heating downstairs.
- You have a room separated from the main conditioned space, such as an attic room, enclosed garage or infrequently used rooms such as a party room.
- You have big open areas in your home.
In each of these scenarios, there are items that must be taken into consideration before a zone system can be effectively installed, such as access to the duct system, access to the HVAC system, distance and square footage. Our Arise Services team can discuss the probability and effectiveness of considering a Zone System to make your home more comfortable.
